Jon & Kate Plus 8 in TV Guide

So, ya—I love Jon & Kate Plus 8. GET OVER IT! Last month I posted a pic of them in In Touch Weekly and I just found a new ad for the show inside next week's TV Guide. Apparently the Gosselins are headed to a tropical location for a big wedding event and are very happy to be there... minus the twins.

Please look at Cara and Mady. I love their dynamic in the family. Maddie is never in the mood to take a nice family picture, and Cara looks like her dad might be pinching her in the back. Hey—at least she's in the photo!

I love the Gosselins and, Jon & Kate, I am totally free to babysit whenever you need to install some garage shelves or go shopping at Banana Republic.

Also, please excuse my tape job in the middle of the photo—It was two whole pages!

Jon & Kate Plus 8 airs Monday nights at 9pm on TLC.

Synchronized Presidential Debating

Another genius bit of editing from the folks at 23/6.com. You might remember their Olympic Opening Ceremonies in 60 sec piece from a few months ago, but now they've put together a great political piece. Ever feel like the Presidential hopefuls are just saying the same thing over and over again? Well, you're not crazy!

Is it November 4th yet?

Does Your Facebook Profile Die When You Do?

Very interesting piece of blogness I'd like to share... This comes from my buddy Chris over at Angelina (Faux)lie. In the age of technology, social networking and blogs, what exactly happens to someone's cyber-existence when they die?

Mommy, where do our Facebook profiles go when we die?

I've had a few people I know pass away, and their Facebook profiles continue to live on until someone smartly asks for them to be taken down. Until they are removed Facebook walls are turned into homes for online eulogies and deceased are being tagged in photos postmortem.

Should we start putting "Please cancel my Facebook profile" in our wills?

What do you think?

Time Warp on Discovery Channel

I believe there are two universal truths to the world:
  1. Funny pictures of animals are always funny.
  2. Everything is cooler in slow motion.
We all know that there are tons of web sites out there with funny animal pictures, but Discovery Channel has gone and provided me with my weekly slo-mo fix with their new show Time Warp. The premise is simple, the Time Warp team takes ordinary activities and shows them at super slow speeds to reveal their unseen beauty (or grossness).

The episodes that I have seen so far included a man juggling chainsaws, some guys breaking bricks with their fists, and a bunch of random objects being annihilated inside an industrial-strength blender. You'd be amazed and how beautiful strawberries getting hacked up can be! If you don't believe the sheer coolness of the concept, check out a promo from the show below:

Cool, right?

P!nk "Funhouse"

In P!nk's fifth studio album the rocker turns softer in the wake of her divorce from pro Motocross racer Carey Hart. In her last disc, I'm Not Dead, P!nk's songs seemed to stay upbeat while focusing on the wonderfully annoying things about love and life, but the same can't be said about Funhouse.

In fact, with a name like Funhouse and a rockin' lead single "So What?" you'd think the album would be a nonstop party, but if you give the tracks a listen you'll understand the irony of the title. Not all the songs are bummers, but there's a surprisingly sad tone to most of the songs, even if they are kicked up a notch with P!nk's unique style. The title track declares "This used to be a fun house/but now it's fully of evil clowns." A scary thought, but it's a fun way for P!nk to explain her failed relationship and her desire to "burn it down" and start anew.

While this might not be P!nk's most happy or optimistic album to date, it's definitely one that worth checking out. Regardless of the song topic, that girl can sing! I've been listening to it for over a week now, and it's really growing on me. I have a feeling Funhouse will end up being like her third album Try This, which didn't do very well on the US charts, but earned the singer a Grammy in 2004. It might not be an album that you throw on while you're getting ready to go out, but if you're alone on a rainy day or have recently gone through a breakup then you should definitely crank up the volume on Funhouse. Also, if you just got dumped you might want to avoid listening to "I Don't Believe You" because you might slit your wrists. Just saying... It's beautiful but really sad.

My favorite tracks are "So What?", "I Don't Believe You", "Crystal Ball" and "It's All Your Fault."

Have you heard Funhouse yet? What do you think?

I Always Knew I Hated Cats

Here's another game from GameDesign.jp that will surely drive you up the wall.

The premise of Chat Noir is simple: Change the yellow spaces to green to block the cat from walking out of the playing field. Every time you click the cat makes a move for the edge, so choose carefully. Keep clicking the circles until the cat is isolated into one space.

Sesame Street: Grover the Waiter

I was peeking around Hulu.com this morning and was excited to see that they are now hosting old clips from everyone's favorite kiddie show Sesame Street. As I was skimming through the videos I was drawn to the clip of "Grover and the Alphabet Soup." Does anyone else remember Grover as the forgetful waiter serving the disgruntled business man lunch? Check out the clip:

Sesame Street is now in its 39th season (holy crap!), and the first installment of Grover as a waiter appeared way back in season three. I remember watching this as a wee tike, but I can watch with a whole new appreciation now. From going back and watching these I've realized that Muppets are always funny, Grover is a really great antagonist, and most importantly... that business Muppet is a dick.

Grab your sippy cup and dunkaroos and watch the rest of the clips:

"More Spaghetti" is my favorite!

Today is my 26th birthday, so I'm taking a break from the normal blogging, mainly because I am so old and tired now that just logging into blogger requires a nap.

Thanks to everyone who sent me messages today, via Facebook, email, text and phone. Thanks for the cards from Mom & Dad, Aunt Freddie and Uncle Jim, Gram & Pap and anyone else who sent a card that will be waiting for me in my mailbox when I get home. Also, thanks to Mom, Dad and Gram & Pap for each individually calling me to sing "Happy Birthday", even if it was the annoying "h-a-p-p-y-b..." version, Dad!

Remember when I looked like this? Now I'm a old man.

Thanks, everyone!

File this under another pointless but really fun web site that you should check out. Not to be outdone by the awesome yearbook photo generator, the fine folks at Kodak have created the web site MakeMeSuper.com where you can take yourself from Clark Kent to Superman in just a few short minutes. You upload a picture of yourself and the site makes a really stupid and funny video of you and your superhero self. Here's a still from my video:

There's a ton of pre-programmed names in the system so hopefully yours will be in there! When you're finished you can either download your superhero movie or turn your pictures into gifts like mugs and playing cards (Christmas is right around the corner!) You're welcome.

Kristen Wiig's Top 10 Moments

I'm really, really mad at myself for letting someone else beat me to this. I knew I should have done this a long time ago. Anyway, I'll kick myself later...

TVSqaud.com has compiled a list of SNL's Kristen Wiig's top 10 funniest moments. They include Penelope, Judy Grimes, the surprise party lady, Suze Orman and more! I'm kinda of surprised that the baby hands sister didn't make it into the list, but what can you do.

I personally think Kristen Wiig is one of the best things to come to SNL in a long time. There's something about a really pretty girl doing really ugly, funny things that is so hilarious. In fact, i like Kristen's characters so much that my friend Kelly and I went as "2 A-Holes go to a Halloween party" in 2006. Here's the pic:

She was a cat and I was a pirate, obviously. Don't worry... no one at any of the parties we went to got it either [EXCEPT FOR THE AMAZINGLY SMART AND TALENTED JEANETTE DUFFY*]. Everyone asked me, "Are you a douche bag?" I mean, I guess they were right.

Have a great weekend!

The Balloon Project

I found this web site a long time ago, but am just getting around to writing about it now. The Balloon Project started out when 2 guys from San Francisco thought it would be fun to tie a ton of balloons to a small camera and watch the footage as it soars over the city. They soon realized that they were getting some amazing and beautiful aerial shots and decided to take their project all over the map. Here's where they've shot:

The Balloon Project has their own YouTube Channel where you can watch their footage from each city, but I'll give you a little sneak peek... This is the balloon's view of New York City's Central Park. Check it out as the camera starts in Columbus Circle and goes right over the Columbus statue. Very cool.

Must be fun chasing the camera to try to get it back!

You Say Tomato, I Say This Game Makes Me Crazy

File this under another online game that will ruin your life! Domino Pressure is a simple game where you have to select the correct domino to start the chain reaction that will eventually squash the tomato. You lose a second for each undisturbed domino you leave behind- so choose carefully! Here's an example:

It seems pretty easy, but you'll quickly get frustrated trying to figure out which domino is the first in the chain. If you're unable to choose the first domino, hit the pass button and you'll get a bunch of time back on the clock (and it will show you the solution). But use carefully- you only get 3 passes. My tip is to try to pick the domino that you think will squash the tomato and then work backwards! Good luck!

Kath & Kim Makes Me Sad

I don't want to write a long post about this, but did you watch the first episode of Kath & Kim last night? If not check it out:

I really, really wanted to like Kath & Kim. I love Molly Shannon and I really like Selma Blair, but the pilot just wasn't doing it for me. *sad face* I felt like the first episode didn't really set up anything, and featured Kath and Kim walking around wearing crazy outfits and saying outrageous things without actually being crazy or outrageous. They weren't trainwreck-y enough or something. And I know it was the first episode, but I don't feel like there was any depth to either of them.

I also felt like Shannon and Blair were acting themselves to DEATH! It was as if just before the director said "action" they both agreed to act their characters straight into the ground! Like the SNL sketches of John Lovitz and Phil Hartman saying, "ACTING! ACTING!" over and over again.

I do have a a special place in my heart for Kath, though, as my mom's name is Kathy and they have the same haircut. That's where the similarities end... or at least I pray. I'll give Kath & Kim a few more episodes before I decide to make a full-season commitment, but I hope it gets a lot funnier.

Kath & Kim airs at 9:30 on Thursdays on NBC

Redesigning Top Design

When the first season of Bravo's Top Design aired I watched every episode. The network was riding high on the success of Project Runway and Top Chef, so I assumed Top Design would follow in their footsteps. Although I found the first season of Top Design enjoyable, I think it really lacked the creative sizzle that the other Bravo reality competition shows.

The season 1 challenges always seemed a little lame to me. The designers have a $50K budget or something for each challenge to go pick out high-end furniture and accessories from that huge design center, then had to decorate a three-walled "room" for most of the challenges. I just felt like they were merely picking beautiful, expensive things and filling up fake rooms and calling it design. I think Jonathan Adler's horribly lame catchphrase of "see you later, decorator" said it best; They were just decorating.

With season 2 Top Design has been, well, redesigned with a fresh format and a tweaked judging system and new host. They've almost copied the format of Runway with India Hicks in the Heidi Klum role, Todd Oldham as Tim Gunn and the other wacky designers as the judges. I think it's familiar to the viewers and makes more sense in the end.

This season the designers are actually having to design. They've taken the challenges off-site to actual people's homes, bomb shelters and storefronts. We're getting to see the designers fill up entire rooms (or multiple rooms) with their personal design aesthetic, while sticking to more strict, realistic budgets. I have a feeling viewers much prefer watching the contestants transform a bedroom for $2000 instead of $20,000. Many more takeaways and inspiration. We're also getting to see them painting, building and crafting, versus just filling a room up with purchased stuff.

All and all, I'm much more interested in this second season of Top Design, and am interested to see what the finalists will have to do for their final challenge. What do you think?

Top Design airs Wednesday nights at 10pm on Bravo.

Life's Simple Pleasures

I know I'm a total weirdo, but did anyone else ever get a severe sense accomplishment when they would completely color a piece of notebook paper with highlighter? That blinding, moist sheet gleaming back at you, validating your dedication, stamina and complete disregard for highlighter lifespan?

I unintentionally started coloring on a paper towel today at work because I thought my highlighter was dead. Little did I know that my compulsive inner 9-year-old self would spring forth and cause me to fill in its entire face. The result:

Probably the most gratifying thing I did today.

Andy Rooney Ruins My Sunday Nights

Every Sunday night I look forward to sitting down and watching the Amazing Race on CBS. It's one of my favorite shows on television, and I really enjoy winding down my weekend with it. Unfortunately, when I turn the channel to CBS at 8pm I'm inevitably greeting by that crotchety dinosaur Andy Rooney!

I know it's not Andy's, nor 60 Minutes', fault that the CBS Sunday lineup gets pushed back when the football games go long, but when I'm ready to watch the next leg of a race around the world the last thing I want to hear is Rooney ranting about umbrellas or bitching about newfangled watches (notice how he wears his face down, like a jerk).

Last night's Amazing Race didn't start until 8:30pm, about 30 minutes later than scheduled, which isn't a big deal, but I wonder how many other viewer's nights were thrown off kilter by its delayed start. People who wanted to watch a show on another network at 9pm had to choose between finishing Amazing Race or starting their new show. Audiences who DVR'd Race will probably be disappointed when they go to watch and find that the last (and most important) 30 minutes of the show didn't make it to the recording.

The other thing that I find peculiar is that while other CBS shows, like Survivor, are available online in their entirety, Amazing Race is only available in short clips that don't add up to the full episode. I'm surprised that CBS doesn't want to make their six-time Emmy-winning show more readily available to its fans. What gives?

I'm sure that there more important things to worry about in this day and age, but for a TV lover like me I am perturbed.

The Vice Presidential Debate

I'm writing this post about halfway through the VP debates.

Let me say this before I take my opinions to my blog and everyone starts slamming on me: I admit that I am not the most politically-educated person around. I don't know everything there is to know about the government and politics, but unfortunately I think most of America is that way. I'm watching Biden and Palin debate right now, and I just want to share my thoughts as I watch because I am home alone and have no one to share them with!

First off, I really wish that the candidates would focus on what they are going to do, not what their opponent is going to do/not do. I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one who feels this way.

Watching Palin debate makes me want to pull my hair out. I've yelled out several times during the event.

I won't lie. I kinda like Palin and the energy she brings to this campaign. She's brought every single person's attention to her and therefore to the election. I don't agree with anything she believes in or says, but I like her because... well... I guess I have sympathy for her.

In my opinion, she is a hometown politician who was able to wink and baby-kiss her way into office in Alaska. I'm sure she's done a fine job up there, a stone's throw away from Russia, but I can't believe how unprepared she is to be under the national microscope. I feel bad!

She's not answering the questions that are asked of her, she is barely presenting any facts or actual figures, and she wouldn't know how to end a sentence out of a wet paper bag... or something. You think she would have more specifics prepared since when Katie Couric asked her what publications she's read she said "all of 'em."

She also keeps saying "nu-cu-ler" instead of "nu-cle-ar"
and I mean, we see how that went for the last 8 years.

The comparison has already been made, but I feel like Sarah Palin is just like Miss South Carolina Teen USA. I feel like she's been cramming important names, numbers and figures for the last 48 hours, and keeps spewing them out in random without actually listening to what she's saying! I have been waiting to hear about "US Americans" and "the Iraq" all night. I'm glad she is concerned with foreign policy, the greed on Wall Street, the corruption in Washington, the economy, the environment, health care and Iraq but she can't just string them all together without using punctuation and expect us to give her our vote.

Everyone's expectations, including myself, for Palin were the lowest of low and she still effed it up.

Biden is owning.
