People are saying that this is the song of the summer, and I have to say that I can't really argue with them. Check out Katy Perry's Candyland-inspired video for "California Gurls" featuring Snoop Dogg.
Every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day I'm going to be featuring "guest bloggers" as a part of my "Summer Fridays" series. This week's entry comes from Eric P. who gives us a funny Cliffs Notes catchup on the phenomenon of the Gosselin family.
It seems like only yesterday that I was writing an entry for this very blog, a Summer Friday back in 2008 about how much I loved an innocent show called Jon & Kate Plus 8. A nice simple show that followed two small town Pennsylvanian parents raising 8 adorable kids. I would sit in front of the TV and watch as the family traveled to the crayon factory (lucky kids!), went to visit Oprah, or even something as mundane as play in the backyard.
Then... um... something happened.
I can safely assume that almost everyone in America knows who Jon and Kate Gosselin are now. But in case there is somebody reading this, I will give you the quick rundown. Jon cheated on Kate or something like that and the couple became the tabloids number one target. He partied with college kids and went to dinner with some woman in his tacky silver sports car. He became a walking cliche for a mid-life crisis.
Jon and Kate then separated and Jon began to date some horrible person named Hailey Glassman who turned out to be the daughter of Kate’s plastic surgeon who gave her a tummy tuck in season 2. Effed up, right? Then Jon became the biggest douche in the world. Ed Hardy from head to toe along with two diamond "I hate my lot in life" earrings. Somewhere along the way he became good friends with Michael Lohan, too. You cannot make this stuff up. Look below. These two were made for each other.
Looks like women's television will be getting a little spicier (or scarier?) as Mel B takes on not one, but two gigs this summer.

Melanie Brown -- formerly known as Scary Spice -- will be hosting the second season of the Oxygen dance/weight-loss competition series Dance Your Ass Off. Brown will be replacing former host Marissa Jaret Winokur when the show returns on Monday June 7 at 11pm.
It was also announced that Brown will be filming a new reality show for the Style Network slated to air in early September 2010. The Mel B Project will follow the singer/host/actress/lady around Los Angeles as she juggles her career and family life. Her husband Stephen Belafonte and two daughters, Phoenix and Angel, will also be featured on the show.
Ever since I yelled into the back of Mel B's hair a few years ago I've been waiting to see her on a regular basis (um, you know, since we're friends.) I always said that NBC missed the mark by not turning Victoria Beckham: Coming to America into a full series, but at least another former Spice Girl is getting in with American TV audiences.
What do you think? Will you watch Mel B on Dance Your Ass Off or her new reality show The Mel B Project? Leave a comment!
Guys, what the hell is wrong with Lindsay Lohan? For real. This is a serious question.
This young lady has been spiraling out of control for the last, well, decade it seems, and no one appears to be stepping in to help her. She's had a rash of DUI and drug allegations, went to rehab, been dropped from film projects and even sued the E-Trade baby!
In her latest round of "WTF is wrong with you?" news Lohan allegedly lost her passport in Cannes, France causing her to miss a court appointment (for a past DUI arrest) and have a warrant issued for her arrest. Here's the full story from NBC's Today show:
Seemingly out of nowhere, Beyonce has released a new video for her song "Why Don't You Love me?"
The track was a bonus song on the re-release of her album I Am... Sasha Fierce in 2009 (the original release was Nov. 2008) and the video features Bey and her Bettie Page bangs vamping it up in a retro sexy classic TV housewives hybrid kinda thing. Check it out!
The fabulously funny Betty White was on the Today show this morning, and Meredith Vieira dubbed her Hollywood's "oldest and newest 'it' girl." Pretty spot-on, right?

The actress talked about her recent resurgence in popularity and revealed that she's actually very anxious about her upcoming stint hosting Saturday Night Live on May 8. She said she is up for almost anything that comes her way on SNL, including singing and dancing. But would she do nudity?: "Only a little bit of nudity," she admits. Check out the interview...
Jesse James apologizes to Sandra Bullock, Heidi Montag shows her mom her brand new face, and The Countess from The Real Housewives of NYC debuts her new single (there is singing involved!)
Yes, she was 20% of the biggest girl group of all time, but Melanie C (aka Sporty Spice) has had massive solo success in the UK and Europe. With five -- yes, five! -- albums of her own she's had a bunch of singles and videos out, but beyond "I Turn To You" most have gone unheard and unseen by us folks here in the States.
So, without further ado, please enjoy my six favorite Melanie C videos, in no particular order.
From Jim Carey and Jenny McCarthy's split to Jon & Kate Gosselin's lawsuit check out me and Jacki Garfinkel in this week's Likes or Yikes video from iVillage.com.
Which stories do you like and which ones make you say "yikes?"
As you may have read before the new Clash of the Titans movie is only so-so, but the shining star of the film was the stunningly beautiful Gemma Arterton, who plays the demigod Io.
Seriously, I don't know what it is but I could not stop staring at Arterton any time she was on screen. The British actress is relatively unknown here in the States, but she is most likely about to become a household name.
Gemma did a stint of roles in the UK before making her first blip on the international radar as Bond girl Strawberry Fields in the Quantum of Solace with Daniel Craig. Following her role in Clash she will next star along side Jake Gyllenhaal as Tamina in Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. (Watch Arterton dish on her Prince of Persia costar)
Billy and I were talking the other day about MTV's new hit reality show Jersey Shore and HBO's True Blood when I blurted out "Snooki is mine!!!" Billy then used his graphic arts magic to create this poster of vampire Bill Compton and Snooki.
An overzealous fan bumrushed Britney Spears during her finale number at her concert in Connecticut this week. The 20-year-old fan didn't do anything too dramatic, but it apparently really spooked Spears who had a startling reaction. Check out the clip (fast forward to 2:15 to see the incident:)
A few notes on the matter... First off, NOT COOL, DUDE. I can't believe someone would jump on stage at a Britney Spears concert. #1- You're not at a Metallica concert or in some small club or bar and #2- You KNOW Britney is fragile and unpredictable. Why would you do that to her? How did this kid even get that close without someone pummeling him?
Look at the genuine fear on her face. It's kind of upsetting. One, because she is so spooked and two because she is seemingly unable to handle the unplanned nature of it. Not that you can really compare Britney Spears and Solange Knowles, but the younger Knowles sister calmly handled a drunken fan who decided to join in one of her recent performances (watch the clip around 3:20). Britney bugs out then just goes half-heartedly back into the routine.
Lastly, now that we know Brit Brit is safe, can we talk about how she appears to let out a blood-curdling scream into her face-mounted microphone and we hear nothing?! I know that it's widely accepted that Britney lip syncs her entire show (heck, I was there and heard it in person) but it's kind of a slap in the face to know that her mic isn't on at all during the performance.
The whole thing goes to show that we're still dealing with a very fragile individual.
Kelly Clarkson released the music video to her second single from her latest album All I Ever Wanted. Here are some screen grabs from Kelly's video for "I Do Not Hook Up"
Check out the full video here:
It's a cute video. Very Kelly. Nothing super original, but I have a feeling this jam is going to be one of the songs of the summer.

Tonight Oxygen premieres its first ever competition reality show Pretty Wicked. The premise is simple: Beautiful, backstabbing girls are pitted against each other to find out which of them can change their wicked ways and become a better person, and which ones will continue to lie, cheat and manipulate their way through life. ABC tried a similarly-themed show called True Beauty earlier this year that was a total flop. I can watch just about any reality show out there and even I didn't make it past the first 2 episodes.
The good news is that things are looking good for Pretty Wicked. It's basically a combination of several other successful reality shows like America's Next Top Model, Bad Girls Club, Beauty and the Geek and Charm School. The girls on the show are amazingly cast and the challenges are ridiculous but interesting at the same time.
I went to a press screening of the premiere last night and talked with host, and ANTM cycle 7 winner, CariDee English about the new show and what it's like to be on the other side of a reality show's production. Check it out:
I was a little skeptical of Pretty Wicked when I saw the first previews, because I figured it would be just another one of those "can we make the bad girls good?" shows. Maybe that is slightly the case, but I think the casting of the show is what makes Wicked stand out. There were girls that I LOVED and girls that I HATED within the first five minutes of the show. Always a sure sign for success.
The ridiculous sound bites that the girls fired off will be things that you and your friends (or at least me and my friends) will be quoting for a while. When asked what her strengths in life were contestant Vanessa quickly responded with, "shopping, spending and blow jobs." Bravo.
The first episode forced the girls to have a mixer with blind men, who can only judge them based on personality. Contestant Julin wins the challenge because she knew it wasn't "a beauty pageant, but a personality pageant." When fellow contestant Ana says one of the men provoked her dog into barking, Julin tells her to relax because "they can't even see your dog." Wise words, Julin.
Do yourself a favor and watch the premiere of Pretty Wicked tonight at 11pm on Oxygen, then tune every Tuesday at 10pm when the show moves to its regular time next week. You'll be pretty happy you did.
Check out the video for Kelly Clarkson's new track "My Life Would Suck Without You" off her album All I Ever Wanted.

Last night Carolyn and I were invited to do interviews on the red carpet for the launch of Oxygen's America's Next Top Model Obsessed, which will show marathons of ANTM every Sunday starting January 18, 2009.
Almost 50 models were in attendance, and many other Top Model cast members and some bonus celebrities as well. We interviewed a bunch of them, which you can see below. Also, I met Analeigh and she let me brush her hair. NO JOKE. Check it out...
Do you remember the show Rich Girls on MTV? It aired in 2003 and was one of the first reality shows that simply followed someone around during their day-to-day life. The stars were 2 rich girls: Jamie Gleicher (who I still don't know what she did or where she came from) and Ally Hilfiger, daughter of fashion designer Tommy Hilfiger.
The show wasn't the most entertaining or exciting program on TV, but watching the weird and ridiculous antics of these 2 girls was pretty amusing. They both seemed to be truly themselves and not play up for the cameras, which is rare in today's filled-to-capacity reality TV lineup.
During my college years my friend Danielle and I were obsessed with Ally and her unreasonable anxiety and nervous breakdowns. Well, praise Jesus for inventing YouTube because I found a clip from one of my favorite moments of the first and only season of Rich Girls. Fast forward to 1:50 into the video see my favorite moment, which I often recite when I'm feeling anxious or overwhelmed...
According to her wikipedia page Ms. Hilfiger had to spend some time in rehab after taping finished (who didn't go to rehab? Seriously?) because apparently the stress of being rich and famous or having a television show was just too much handle. Either that or she collapsed after another failed attempt at getting the onions with the tomato with the beef with the rice and the cheese. Well, you get it.
This is probably is the most random thing I've ever blogged about but... it just makes me really happy. Do you remember this show? Here's the intro in case you missed the catchy theme!
