More Things from Rock Fashion Week

This is about a week overdue, but I thought I'd share a few more items from my trip to Miami last weekend for Rock Fashion Week. I saw a lot of runway shows while I was there, but only a few really stuck out as excellent. I already wrote about collections from Abi Ferrin and Richie Rich but two of my favorites came on the final night.

Argyleculture from Russell Simmons was a mens line that was really preppy and sharp (who says sharp?) I really liked the pairing of really great suits with sneakers and other casual elements. Check out the full collection and a video of the finale walk...

The Fall 2009 collection for Monarchy closed out the last night and was by far my favorite show of the weekend. The mens and womens clothes were cool, professional and just funky enough to stand out from similar lines. Designer Eric Kim wonderfully blended textures and patterns like leather, plaids and knits into looks that you'd expect to see anywhere from the set of Gossip Girl to the streets to a fox hunt in the English countryside. Check out the full collection and the finale walk...

Richie Rich Fashion Show, Rock Fashion Week

Here's the finale walk of the Richie Rich fashion show from Rock Fashion Week in Miami.

The clothes were funky (like you'd expect from Richie Rich/Heatherette) but they weren't that tacky (like you'd expect from Richie Rich/Heatherette.) The collection was a little schizophrenic—dresses, street wear and mens/womens swimwear—but was fun and flirty. Check out my slideshow of the show:

I went to a press conference earlier in the day where Richie Rich announced he will be teaming up with bombshell Pamela Anderson for his next collection called Muse. Sounds like an odd pairing that might actually turn out pretty cool. Anderson was at the press conference and at the show. You'll see here at the end of the video clip...

Rock Fashion Week

So, I'm down in Miami for Rock Fashion Week... Don't ask me how I got here, but I'm having fun and staying at the amazing Fontainebleu Resort. You can read my review of some of the shows so far on iVillage.com's blog The Fashionator.

Here's a video clip I took of designer Abi Ferrin's Fall 2009 collection:

Cover Girl & Tibi Fashion Show

Yesterday Carolyn and I had a very fun and special night! We were invited by America's Next Top Model Cycle 11 winner McKey Sullivan to a Cover Girl & Tibi fashion show, where a girl from the Make-A-Wish foundation walked as a model. The event was filmed for McKey's "My Life As a Cover Girl" spot. Take a look at our clip from the event

Watch the HQ version

We sat in the front row (I was in the first seat) and were lucky enough to sit right next to McKey's mom, who was so wonderful, sweet and proud of her daughter. We got to chat with McKey after the show, but she was quickly pulled away to go film the behind-the-scenes elements of the spot. She looked beyond gorgeous.

So, make sure you watch the commercials during Cycle 12 of ANTM and look for us in the fashion show!

Abercrombie Wants Little Boys to be Manwhores

It's common knowledge that Abercrombie & Fitch is well-known for using salacious and scandalous imagery in their ad campaigns. Some of their past ads were even banned in certain malls for being too sexual. While using some sex to sell a product isn't a new tactic, I'm a little concerned with the age-appropriateness of some of Abercrombie's latest kids fashions. Please take a look at these new shirts designed for boys 10-16.

I'll admit, this one's kinda cute. Sorta.

Ok... A little mature for a 10-year-old, but not too bad

Your tween is now picking up women at a bar? You must be proud.

So, that 10-year-old just had sex with YOUR MOM?! KICK HIS ASS!

I mean, maybe I'm just old... but aren't these a tad bit much? Kids and their rap musics and the MTVs...

My Blog is Leatha'

My buddy Eric was in town from Philly this past weekend and gave me a cool, little gift. He knows I'm a big Project Runway fan, and he made me a button of Stella from season 4 that says "leatha" on it. I think it's hysterical.

So, I got to go to my very first fashion show during fashion week tonight (it was for Jordache and the clothes were fug) so I thought I would wear the pin and see if anyone picked up on it. Just for shiggles... No one at the show noticed it, but I did see a ton of my fave reality show folks. I was 6 seats down from Ms. J. of ANTM fame and both Dani (winner of Cycle 6 of ANTM) and Perry (from Make Me a Supermodel) walked in the show (pictures below).

The best thing happened though on my way home from the venue. I was walking about 2 blocks from my apartment when, out of the corner of my eye, I see Stella walking down 8th avenue. She was walking her dog and I knew I had to talk to her. I said, "Stella!" and she said, "*Stella voice* Yea?" I said "Hey, I'm Patrick. I'm wearing a pin of you. Leatha'." She got a total kick out of it! I told her that my friend made it and that I loved her on Runway and she told me about her new shop that she's opening on the lower east side. Clearly we took a pic.

Attempt #1 with eyes closed (then the camera died!)

Re-do with the camera phone (THANKS, BRIAN!)

Stella was mad cool, as expected, and asked me to send her one of the pins. I said, "just take this one" and she said "no, I couldn't" and I said "No, you want it, don't you?" and she said "Ya. Ya, I do!" So I pinned her with her leatha pin and off she went! I immediately called Eric to tell him that he is now famous.

How funny is that?! Maybe I'll see the pin on the reunion special! You rock, Stella!

Here's my pix of the runway show:

Just another ridiculously random day in my life.

Topanga's New Gig: The Dish

I first heard rumblings that Topanga from Boy Meets World (real name Danielle Fishel) was hosting a new show on the Style Network a few weeks ago. I heard the show was called The Dish and that's pretty much all I knew about it. Now, I'm not a huge watcher of Style, but I do know that every single time I flip past it (channel 118 on Time Warner digital cable) they are running an episode of Clean House, or maaaaaybe that weird Instant Beauty Pageant show if I'm lucky.

On a side note: Why must all of the hosts of Clean House always be slightly unfortunate? Why?! I'm sure there are more put-together wannabe hosts out there!

Anyway, back to the issue... This past weekend in between episodes of said shows I caught Fishel and The Dish and was pleasantly surprised! If you haven't seen the show for yourself, it's basically just a rip-off/spin-off of E!'s The Soup for people who have lady parts. The show features clips from reality shows, news segments and home shopping networks with a focus on style, fashion and celebrity. Fishel does a surprisingly great job of keeping the rhythm and joke-style of The Soup without looking like she's completely copying. I think she's actually kinda funny and it's refreshing to see a normal-ish looking girl hosting a show about fashion and beauty. Plus, she isn't afraid to make fun of herself from time to time.

Check out this clip of Fishel hosting The Dish:

I mean, she's no Joel McHale, but I think she holds her own. Just thought you might want to check it out! The Dish airs Saturdays at 10pm on the Style Network.

Pet Peeve #5

Jumping the Seasonal Gun

Today is a much cooler day in New York City; down around 76 degrees instead of the recent 85. While the air is slightly less oppressive than it has been, there is NO NEED to start breaking out the sweaters, cardigans and scarves just yet. I saw several people who were completely layered up and really rushing the Fall fashions already. Relax, people. The dark, cool days of Autumn will be here soon enough.

These are probably the same folks that jump into their cargo shorts (gag) and flip flops in March just because the temperature rises above freezing. Also, there's already Halloween costumes and candy in some of the drug stores. IT'S AUGUST. It's just annoying.

The Middle Show: NYC Fashion

New York City is often times described as the fashion capital of the world. It's such a melting pot of cultures and people, and there is such a creative energy that you never know what kind of interesting or unusual people you might see walking down the street.

Black20.com's The Middle Show took to the streets to observe some of NYC's most glorious fashion trends, and then wrote songs to go with them. Genius. Take a look.

This reminds me of the time I was in Central Park and saw the girl dressed in head-to-toe pink, with pink hair. Aerosmith's Pink played in my head... for obvious reason. And personally, I think the man in red looked more like the Kool-Aid Man, but maybe that was just me.
