What a Weekend

It was a fun weekend around Apt. 1M and no one even had to shave their head! Saturday was my pal Shira's 23rd birthday (she's such a young'n!) so Carolyn, her boyfriend Alan, our friend Kelly and I headed downtown to meet them out. We met the crew at a karaoke bar called 2nd on 2nd for some tunes and drinks. Nothing gets and evening started like listening to drunk people sing horrible 80s songs in the wrong key! Please allow my photo skills to narrate the rest of the evening:

We decided to take the subway downtown, but unfortunately after 20min of waiting they made an announcement that no more downtown trains were coming tonight... that sucked.

We ended up having to take a cab, but it was a long trip so we made our own fun to kill time.

Eventually we made it to the bar and greeted the birthday girl!

Kelly was there, too, but she always has red eyes.

After a few songs we decided to head on to the next bar and visit Carolyn's friend, Becky

They were having a Jagermeister party and Kelly was really thrilled about her free lei. Not.

We had a great time at the party, but decided to head home around 3am. We were really tired.

A fun night!

If you think Saturday was fun, wait until you hear about Sunday! We got a new coffee table! *holds while readers calm down from the amazing news* It's a beautiful (and expensive) table that Carolyn's boss donated to our awesome apartment. Unfortunately the original design was just too big for our limited space we had to make a few adjustments, but it looks great in the space!

I would also like to point out what a transformation our apartment has undergone since we moved in one year ago!

We're awesome.

Celebrities Gone Wild

We all know that celebrities often go to extremes in order to drum up press or publicity, but it seems like everyone's going a little bit over the edge recently. Case in point, Britney "I'm one meltdown away from being Anna Nicole" Spears. Everyone is commenting on her behavior. I've witnessed everyone from a young man asking his in-laws if they heard about it to the cashier at McDonalds reading the cover of the New York Post.

Poor Britney has been through a lot lately, but she's really gone over the edge this time. At the end of last year Britney emerged from married life with a new, short hairdo, news of her divorce from K-Fed and everyone was genuinely excited to get the "old Britney" back. Unfortunately, a few weeks later she had some ratty hair extensions in and was hanging out with Paris Hilton and it was all over. A few underwear-less photos later and Britney was on the verge of ruining her image. (Let's remember that she does have two little boys at home... or somewhere. Who knows who's taking care of them.)

Now Britney has either decided to start fresh with a new, bald head or she's gone completely off the deep end. Honestly, I think there's about a 50/50 chance on either option. I can't fault Britney for wanting a clean slate. I understand! I shaved my head before I moved to NYC. It felt good to drop the old weight before a big change. Then again- I'm a 24-year-old guy and not a wacked out mother of two. It's a funny state in the world when the lead story on CNN.com and MSNBC.com are about a lady who shaved her head. That's really the biggest story out there?

In all seriousness, I really hope that Britney can make a turnaround, just to prove to everyone that she is just having a rough patch and isn't actually an unstable crazy person. Maybe she should go to rehab for more than an alleged 24 hours just like all the other celebs who have rough patches. It worked for Lindsay Lohan and Isaiah Washington (what was he getting rehabilitated from exactly?) so maybe she should really give it a try. The world will just have to wait to see who can trump Britney on this one. Stay tuned!

The World's Coolest Kid

This kid is making a splash all over the internet, so I wanted to help him out and give him a mention on my little ol' blog. Check out this video from Youtube.com of 3-year-old Andrew singing some of the best hits of yesterday and today. I hope my kids are this rad when I'm older.

I'm Not Lazy

I have basically slept my entire weekend away, but I don't think I'm lazy. Ok, maybe a little bit lazy, but not that bad. Sometimes I feel really guilty about living in New York City and spending days at a time inside my apartment. I mean, why should I be inside all day when I live in the most exciting city on earth? Because I'm tired, that's why. Living in the city that never sleeps is pretty exhausting most of the time as you can imagine. There's always something going on and people to see and things to do, it can be overwhelming at times. I've been in the city about a year and a half now and I feel like I'm finally getting the handle of everything.

People don't come to New York to live a leisurely life. It's not an easy or leisurely place to live. There are plenty of leisurely activities to take part in, but even trying to participate in those with millions of other people at once can be exhausting. Most people come to New York to work and to achieve their goals. They come here to get ahead. People come here because there are opportunities that you can't find anywhere else in the world. They don't come here to do average things.

Sometimes I find it really hard to balance work and a social life. Much like other people in the industry, I work about 60 hours a week. Granted, it's not like I'm lifting bricks or pouring concrete or something like that, but I do work hard. Unfortunately, because I spend the major of my time at work, that doesn't leave much time to see people who aren't my colleagues. I've met so many interesting people since I moved to NYC and I find it really hard to get face time with everyone. It's really easy to burn out after working and playing all the time. I think I've burned out a few times since I've been here.

My mom has always said that life is about balance. You have to balance out the work and play, and I definitely agree with that. You also have to balance out the time spent on others and the time you spend on yourself. So sometimes when I stay in bed all weekend and don't leave my apartment for 24 hours it's not because I'm lazy. I'm just balancing out.

Anna Nicole Smith is dead

No matter what you thought of her, the passing of Anna Nicole Smith is sad. Reports are coming in that she overdosed in a Florida hotel room this afternoon and paramedics were unable to revive her. Anna has been under fire for the her unwillingness to cooperate with finding the paternity of her new daughter. On top of that, Smith also lost her son Daniel late last year under suspcious circumstances concerning prescription medication. More details available on MSNBC.com. Needless to say, it will be a busy day for the gossip mags and blogs in the next hours and days. RIP Anna!
