Summer Friday: Shoes, No Socks? No Problem!

Every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day I'm going to be featuring "guest bloggers" as a part of my "Summer Fridays" series. This summer's first entry could not be more appropriate. As the weather starts to get warm, put your sock-less feet up and check out this entry from Billy Nastyn.

It just looks hip to not have socks on in the spring and summer. Who doesn't like to appear to be comfortable and fashionable while spending time outside? The problem is that nobody wants to deal with stinky feet, so unless you want to end up having your own personal Lindsay Lohan Talcum powder incident, you shouldn't go unprepared.

There are some great products out there and even some quick fix antidotes that can slip right in and save your soles. Whether you are a frequent sans socks aficionado, or new to the movement, it’s worth exploring your options. Here are some suggestions:

Terry Cloth Insoles

Terry cloth is the stuff of puppies, kittens, and newborn babies (joy!). This is what you want meeting your feet. ALDO sells an amazing insole insert that is not only easy to throw on for the day, but easy to pull out and toss in with your wash. Topped with the attractive terry cloth and a nice gripped rubber bottom, this padding not only creates comfort, but absorbs what you don’t want lingering on you or your shoe.

"What Is a Blog?"

One of my biggest pet peeves is when people misuse the word "blog" when they mean "blog entry" or "post." Like when they say "I posted a new blog today!" No, you didn't. A blog is a site, you posted an entry.

Anyway... Looks like the peeve might be the least of my worries. The folks over at Switched.com did a little man on the street video asking people "What is a blog?" and the answers were all over the map. Check it out.

This was my favorite answer:
"Postings on the web where a bunch of people who are about 1/3 as smart as they really are like to comment on stuff and believe that so many people are so interested in their lives when a lot of times they're just there pointing at their postings and laughing at them."
I mean, the dude has a point! I guess the idea of what a blog really is can nowadays be a little fuzzy, but I'm pretty sure it's not something I use to lock up my important belongings.

'Sex and the City 2' Is Fun, Fashionable and Kind of Offensive

sex and the city 2I saw Sex and the City 2 on Tuesday night and I don't have that much to say about it so please allow me to give you the quick and dirty praises and criticisms.

As I said in my review of the first Sex and the City film I am not an avid SATC fan, nor am I completely familiar with the TV series' story lines, so I watch the movies with a different eye than those who followed the show through its run on HBO.

First off, If you have any interest in seeing Sex and the City 2 you are going to like it. There are the fabulous women, the outrageous outfits and the extravagant settings. The ladies are still their funny, stylish and predictably-complex selves but face some new life challenges including infidelity, gender inequality, motherhood and *gasp* menopause!

US Television to Get Spicier This Summer

Looks like women's television will be getting a little spicier (or scarier?) as Mel B takes on not one, but two gigs this summer.

mel b reality show
Robert Trachtenberg/Oxygen

Melanie Brown -- formerly known as Scary Spice -- will be hosting the second season of the Oxygen dance/weight-loss competition series Dance Your Ass Off. Brown will be replacing former host Marissa Jaret Winokur when the show returns on Monday June 7 at 11pm.

It was also announced that Brown will be filming a new reality show for the Style Network slated to air in early September 2010. The Mel B Project will follow the singer/host/actress/lady around Los Angeles as she juggles her career and family life. Her husband Stephen Belafonte and two daughters, Phoenix and Angel, will also be featured on the show.

Ever since I yelled into the back of Mel B's hair a few years ago I've been waiting to see her on a regular basis (um, you know, since we're friends.) I always said that NBC missed the mark by not turning Victoria Beckham: Coming to America into a full series, but at least another former Spice Girl is getting in with American TV audiences.

What do you think? Will you watch Mel B on Dance Your Ass Off or her new reality show The Mel B Project? Leave a comment!
