Summer Friday: Turning 30? The Writing's On the (Facebook) Wall

Every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day I'm going to be featuring guest bloggers as a part of my "Summer Fridays" series. This week's post comes very a brave Sean M. who muses on the lessons he learned while going from his 20s to his 30s last week.

I turned 30 last week. Lots of people gave me their two cents, which is funny because I didn't really ask anyone for advice. But boy, did it come pouring in. I received phone calls, birthday cards, text message, tweets... but by far the most popular form of birthday advice giving came by way of my very public Facebook page. Let's take a peek at some of my favorites and the lessons I learned from them.

And it was. I went to Arriba Arriba, my favorite restaurant in the whole world, for dinner and drinks. I go to Arriba at least once a week and have been since I was in my early 20s. This isn't about to change any time soon. Turning 30 helped me to understand that this wasn't like a death. This wasn't an instantaneous change; the loss of a job or a loved one. It's a slow change that really does start way before you hit the big 3-0.

Do You Use Blue or Black Pens?

While sitting in a fairly boring meeting last week I was noticing what types of pens people in my office chose to use. Personally, I use exclusively black ball point pens. Specifically these ones from Staples. Never -- and I mean never -- will I use blue ink.

Not sure if I was a lone freak, I decided to poll my Twitter and Facebook friends to see if they too had particular pen habits. These are my very unscientific findings:

Bloopers from iVillage's "Likes or Yikes" Series

In case you didn't know, I'm part of a weekly video series for iVillage called "Likes or Yikes" where the fabulous Jacki Garfinkel and I give our spin on the week's funniest and most outrageous entertainment stories.

The great thing about making a weekly video is that there is a ton of footage that never makes it to the web... until now.

Please enjoy these short clips of some of Jacki and I's most memorable gaffs and mistakes. Some of them are much funnier than what we actually meant to say!

I Thought My Place Was Small! Man Lives in 89-sq-ft House

Maybe it's because I just moved and am in the throws of decorating (kitchen, bedroom, bathroom) and organizing, but I am kind of obsessed with this guy and his tiny house.

Ten years ago, Jay Shafer downsized to an 89-square-foot house and reinvented both his lifestyle and career in the process. Check out the clip from Yahoo! Second Act:

Shafer has been all over the place promoting his story and his business -- Tumbleweed Houses -- and while the tight space may make some people crazy (a.k.a. me) it seems to be working all right for him.

The Tiny Houses were recently featured on HGTV's Design Star, where the three remaining finalists each had to style a Tumbleweed Box Bungalow house.

Photos: Zac Efron in 'Charlie St. Cloud'

Forget High School Musical -- Zac Efron is taking on a more serious role in the new dramatic flick Charlie St. Cloud, out this Friday.

In the film, accomplished sailor Charlie St. Cloud (Efron) has the adoration of mother Claire (Oscar winner Kim Basinger) and little brother Sam (newcomer Charlie Tahan), as well as a college scholarship that will lead him far from his sleepy Pacific Northwest hometown. But his bright future is cut short when a tragedy strikes and takes his dreams with it.

After his high-school classmate Tess (Amanda Crew) returns home unexpectedly, Charlie grows torn between honoring a promise he made five years earlier and moving forward with newfound love. And as he finds the courage to let go of the past for good, Charlie discovers the soul most worth saving is his own.
