Why My Friday Nights Will Never Be the Same

By Carolyn Jordan Clark, Contributing Writer

This week marks the end of the NBC/DirecTV series Friday Night Lights and though this may seem dramatic…Friday nights will never be the same. Full disclosure: I am from the South, I loved our high school football quarterback, I was a cheerleader in middle school, I still know all of my high school football chants, so I was locked in to Friday Night Lights from the first scene.

I will venture to say that FNL joins the ranks of My So Called Life as one of the best shows ever on television that was vastly under watched and extremely under appreciated. Each week I found myself folded into the story line as the acting expressed real life situations in the most believable ways. I felt like I was watching real people, in real situations. I think that is an extremely hard feat in the TV of today (obviously not including reality television). The style of filming and seemingly impromptu nature of the dialogues molded this show and completely captivated me. The characters are rich and diverse. The situations were relatable and honest.

There was not an episode where I didn’t want to be the daughter of Coach and Tami Taylor. Not a day when I didn’t want be caught in a love triangle with Street and Riggins. Not a minute that I wasn’t jealous of the utter beauty of Lila and Tyra. Not a second that I didn’t want Julie Taylor and Matt Saracen to end up together. Even Buddy Garrity holds a special place in my heart.

This is a series that I will watch with my children, that I will beg my family and friends to watch, a series that has actually provided solid relationship/marriage advice. It is sad to see this incredible series come to an end but I will never forget the feeling that I get every time I hear coach and the team cheer "Clear Eyes, Full Hearts, Can’t Lose."

Watch the Video for "Think About It" by Melanie C

Melanie C has always been one of my favorite artists -- check out my six fave Mel C videos -- so I am so happy that she has new music for us to enjoy!

"Think About It" is taken from the forthcoming fifth album called The Sea, and was was written in Copenhagen with Adam Argyle and new collaborators the Cutfather team - who also produced the song. Check it out!

I love this simple and gorgeous clip. Mel looks great (I mean, she has a 2-year-old at home) and I love her stylish looks alongside the glowing background images. Oh, and the song's really catchy, too!

"Think About It" will be released in the UK on September 4 and in Germany, Austria and Switzerland on August 26. Along with the UK release the single will also be available for digital download worldwide on iTunes and JunoDownload.

Beside "Think About It" Melanie C also recently released a single and video called "Rock Me" which was created specially for the Women's World Cup. Check it out, too!

Theaters Will Flood with Memories -- and Tears -- During Final 'Potter' Flick

By Billy Nastyn, Contributing Writer

Ten years ago, magic took hold over theaters across the world as we watched a young boy enter the wizarding world. Here we are in 2011 arriving at the final chapter that seemed so far away when it all began. We’ve all grown up and so have these movies. Endless combined hours of being transported (and probably months-worth for true Potter fans) to a world enchanted by Cornish pixies, Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans, Acromantulas and Quidditch have brought us to this final farewell.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is the much-hyped second of two full-length films concluding the eight film series (based on seven books by J.K. Rowling). We find ourselves back with Harry (Daniel Radcliffe), Ron Weasley (Rupert Grint) and Hermione Granger (Emma Watson) as they continue to seek out and destroy the final Horcruxes in hopes of ending the dark reign of Lord Voldemort (Ralph Fiennes). While the series as a whole has been a search for self-discovery, this final film is where the unveiling truly begins -- and ultimately ends.

The battle has been waging for quite some time, so this final film prefers to take the more emotional route over the spellbound action adventure that they allotted for last year’s Deathly Hollows -- Part 1. That doesn’t mean there is anything lacking, since there was considerable time spent filling scenes with cameos from Potter's past. While the final book definitely pulls memorable spells, magical objects and characters into play, it is much more noticeable in the shortened film format and helps to give the proper nod to not only the character’s past, but our own past growing up as viewers. All due nostalgia was paid in full and definitely brought on the waterworks. While tears were rampant in the theater, it’s the onscreen tears that only made it more overwhelmingly moving (just bottle them up and pour them into a penseive and make us cry more, why don’t ya?)

There is no better way to end a series than to experience the parellels of being a viewer coping with the end of an era and your beloved onscreen characters fighting against their own looming end. So, get ready to light a candle, or in this case cast a "Lumos" spell and say your goodbyes. But remember, nothing is truly ever over if you don’t want it to be, so now we can all hop a train at Platform 9 ¾ and make our way over to Pottermore.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 is recommended for:
  • Potter Heads (obviously)
  • Anyone anxious to be one step closer to The Hunger Games movie release
Not recommended for:
  • Jerks who don't like Harry Potter
