Back to Basics Tour

In another day-of-show miracle, my friend Shira and I scored some amazing tickets to the Back to Basics tour starring Christina Aguilera, the Pussycat Dolls and Danity Kane. We got seats in the last row of the first floor section. Really great, centered view of the stage! I lucked out again.

Danity Kane was the first act to go on. If you don't know them, they're from MTV's Making the Band and are backed by Diddy. Their CD is really fun kinda poppy-hiphop with some ballads. I really like it. The girls sang really great live, but unfortunately they kinda looked like a busted version of the Spice Girls (sorry ladies!)

After the show they were presented with some gold records for their album's success. Nice opening act. Here's a clip of the ladies performing "Show Stopper." It's really bassy because I was so close, but you can get the idea.

Next up were the Pussycat Dolls, who were like a much more polished and sexy version of the Danities. Granted, they've been around longer but their presentation was a lot tighter. I guess it's hard to dislike six gorgeous women dancing around in lingerie, but still... they were great. Really fun and they didn't take themselves too seriously. They know who they are and what pepole like.

Here's a clip from "Don't Cha" so check it out.

Finally, Christina Aguilera come out as the headlining act. I saw Christina a few months on Saturday Night Live and she tore the house down. She was even better tonight. Christina continued to push her retro style from the Back to Basics album, but never let it go too over the top. She reworked a lot of her older songs to fit into the jazz/soul genre, but stayed true to most of the hits.

The highlights of the concert for me were the big band opening of the show with "Ain't No Other Man," the speakeasy feel she did on top of a piano halfway through the show, and her rendition of "Dirrty" she did atop a carousel horse. Not to shabby. Check out all the pix and the video clip of "Ain't No Other Man."
