Shear Genius Finale

Last night was the finale of the first season of Bravo's Shear Genius. I've been a big fan of the show and was very excited for the finale. Unfortunately, it just didn't deliver the excitement I had hoped for. I guess I compare all of Bravo's shows to Project Runway (which doesn't come back until the Fall, ugh!) and the high-impact finales it has delivered. I think it was a fun show, but almost just like another challenge... didn't feel like the big end to the season like I thought it would.

So, in the finale the three finalist, Daisy, Anthony and Ben, had to makeover three models in three hours! Each style was unique... one had to use color, one could be whatever they wanted, and the final cut had to be the famous Vidal Sassoon bob. To the contestants surprise, Vidal actually showed up to judge their finale challenge. No pressure!

Once the stylists learned their challenge, they then had to choose a clothing designer, then choose three dresses from that line to use in their hair show (I know, there was a lot of choosing.) Once the stylists chose their designers, their models were automatically assigned to them, and the competition began!

The reason I say that the finale wasn't very exciting was mostly because each of the stylists are so talented. All three of them made some really nice hair styles and cuts, which made it hard to pick who was going to win. I think one of the most fun parts about Project Runway (sorry to bring it up again) is watching the designers' final collections come down the runway and seeing the really pretty and really ugly looks. All of Shear Genius's finalists made nice styles... nothing gross, unfortunately!

In the end it was Anthony who was named the Genius of the competition. His styles were all very fresh and clean. He titled his collection "Modern Movement" and the judges loved it. The problem was that they like everyone's stuff (except maybe Daisy's wet curls) so the ending was fairly anti-climatic. All in all, it was a really fun series and I hope Bravo brings it back for a second season. You can view everyone's final cuts over at BravoTV.com, plus lots of videos and blogs.

Until next season... Go shake it!
