Last night's episode of Bravo's Shear Genius was pretty good! It came down to the final four stylists, who were Daisy, Anthony, Ben and Dr. Boogie. Their Quick Cut challenge was to straighten and style "African-American" hair. I thought it was slightly offensive and overly-PC to call the hair African-American. I'm fairly sure that people outside of America have that type of hair, as well. I understand that styling that type of hair is a completely different ball game from other types, but I still think it could have been put another way. Regardless, Anthony was the winner of the challenge.
The elimination challenge had the stylists working with world-renowned photographer Matthew Rolston. Each contestant had to style hair on a photo shoot with its own theme. Most of them were surprised with how different it is to style hair on a shoot versus a salon. Dr. Boogie bragged about his experience on photo shoots, but annoyed everyone with his know-it-all attitude and his constant need to interrupt and add more hair. Ben struggled the most with his "rebel rocker" look in the beginning, but once on set he really pulled it together (or stood it up, I guess.)
Ben was named the winner of the elimination challenge, and Dr. Boogie was cut from the show. The judges said his fault was adding too many extension to the model; especially since his challenge was to make his model's hair "lighter than air."
