Lily Allen "It's Not Me, It's You"

The soft-spoken and foul-mouthed Lily Allen is back with her sophomore album "It's Not Me, It's You" which is in stores today. If you liked her debut "Alright, Still" then this is another disc you're going to want to pick up.

The debut singled "The Fear" is a sweet and fanciful account of Allen's hopes of fame, fortune and fuck loads of diamonds. It's a dreamy pop song that gets catchier and catchier the more I listen to it. The good news is that the whole album has the same effect.

If you haven't heard any of the other tracks, you can probably get the gist of 'em by the title "It's Not Me, It's You." Every song besides the "The Fear" basically accounts for another flaw of some unfortunate ex-lover. Tracks like "Not Fair," "Never Gonna Happen" and "He Wasn't There" paint a pretty clear picture of how Lily feels towards those left in her wake. And my personal favorite song "Fuck You" is a happy, silly, upbeat track that is really a joy to listen to while walking down the street with your iPod on.

Besides all the man hating, there are also some really lovely romantic songs on the disc. "Chinese" recalls Lily's long commute home to see her lover as she looks forward to an evening of television and takeout. There's even an eerie jam, called "Him", that wonders what god thinks when he looks down on our planet and if his favorite type of human is Caucasian.

The bad news is that the tracks all start to sound the same after while, which is great when you can listen to the full album front-to-back on a Sunday morning like I did, but can make the tracks non-unique when played individually. The bottom line is that if you like Lily Allen you should get your hands on "It's Not Me, It's You" and if you're still on the fence then you might want to give this album a try.
