Vitamin String Quartet Re-Imagines Today's Hits

Clearly I am a big fan of So You Think You Can Dance, and one of the things that I really enjoy about the show is its ability to showcase new and interesting music artists to a wide audience. Season 3 basically launched the career of One Republic and season 4 showcased the music of artists like Adele, Estele, Duffy and Missy Higgins.

This past season there were 2 routines performed to music by the Vitamin String Quartet. The songs were not originals though, but orchestral versions of pop songs by Janet Jackson and Paramore. It's really interesting to hear a song which is so familiar to you performed in a different style, but still be recognizable. So, I did a little digging on iTunes last night and spend over an hour just clicking through the Quartet's music.

Vitamin String Quartet literally has dozens of albums of string versions of rock and pop hits. From The Beatles and Coldplay to Mariah Carey and Gwen Stefani the group has managed to bring the classical sounds of some of the biggest songs in history without making them sound old or outdated.

The Quartet's albums range from compilations of modern rock jams to full albums of popular artists turned orchestral. They also have a few specialized albums of Valentine's Day music and even wedding music. How unique would it be to dance to your favorite contemporary song at your reception without actually having to blast Aerosmith's "I Don't Wanna Miss A Thing" throughout the halls?

If you haven't done so already, I highly suggest you click all the links to the music I listed above and give them a listen. You won't be disappointed. You can also check out the Vitamin String Quartet's website at VitaminRecords.com.
