P!nk "Funhouse"

In P!nk's fifth studio album the rocker turns softer in the wake of her divorce from pro Motocross racer Carey Hart. In her last disc, I'm Not Dead, P!nk's songs seemed to stay upbeat while focusing on the wonderfully annoying things about love and life, but the same can't be said about Funhouse.

In fact, with a name like Funhouse and a rockin' lead single "So What?" you'd think the album would be a nonstop party, but if you give the tracks a listen you'll understand the irony of the title. Not all the songs are bummers, but there's a surprisingly sad tone to most of the songs, even if they are kicked up a notch with P!nk's unique style. The title track declares "This used to be a fun house/but now it's fully of evil clowns." A scary thought, but it's a fun way for P!nk to explain her failed relationship and her desire to "burn it down" and start anew.

While this might not be P!nk's most happy or optimistic album to date, it's definitely one that worth checking out. Regardless of the song topic, that girl can sing! I've been listening to it for over a week now, and it's really growing on me. I have a feeling Funhouse will end up being like her third album Try This, which didn't do very well on the US charts, but earned the singer a Grammy in 2004. It might not be an album that you throw on while you're getting ready to go out, but if you're alone on a rainy day or have recently gone through a breakup then you should definitely crank up the volume on Funhouse. Also, if you just got dumped you might want to avoid listening to "I Don't Believe You" because you might slit your wrists. Just saying... It's beautiful but really sad.

My favorite tracks are "So What?", "I Don't Believe You", "Crystal Ball" and "It's All Your Fault."

Have you heard Funhouse yet? What do you think?
