Gab about Cabs

Upon returning to NYC from Miami my roommate and I found ourselves having to wait in an endless cab line to get back into the city. It was probably one of the longest cab lines I've ever seen at the airport. The long line allowed Carolyn and I the chance to start making small talk about cabs and the different types and which ones we liked and disliked, etc. Gripping conversation, let me tell you...

We both decided that our favorite cabs are the SUV cabs, or Jurassic Park cabs as we like to call them (because they look like the automated SUVs that were destroyed by dinosaurs in the movie, obviously...) We were saying how each of us has only ridden in a Jurassic Park cab but once or twice because there seems to be very few of them in the city. We joked that we deserved to ride in one of these ellusive cabs because we were waiting so long in the line. Luck would have it, we got a Jurassic Park cab! Yes!

Once in the cab we were chatting about cabs some more (we should probably think of more important things to talk about, huh?) and I mentioned that I really wanted to accidentally get into the Cash Cab from Discovery Channel. It's a cab that looks just like any other one you'd see in the city, but once you get in it lights up and the driver starts asking you trivia questions for money. If you get them right you win cash, and if you get three questions wrong the cabbie stops and you have to get out! Awesome. Find out if you'd make it to your destination by taking the Cash Cab quiz.

During all the cab talk our driver heard our enthusiasm for public transportation and told us that if we really wanted to ride in style we needed to get into one of only two Lexus cabs in the city. What?! A Lexus cab?! Black is up, white is down! The driver told us that the two Lexus drivers were very selective about who they picked up and only travel to certain locations. It sounds slightly illegal, but it makes me want to take a ride even more! The New York Sun published an article last month about the new Lexus and hybrid cabs slowly appearing in the city. Pretty interesting. Apparently many drivers are feeling some cab envy towards these new, fancy taxis. Now if only they could bring Phoebe's "relaxi-taxi" idea to fruition we'd really be riding in style. Actually, those kinds of cabs probably exist already but I imagine they're pretty dark and sticky.
