I live in New York City, which means I don't have a car, so my key ring is pretty bare. On it I have my apartment keys (front door, deadbolt and door knob), my mailbox key and the key to my filing cabinet at work. I keep my keys in my pocket most of the time so I don't even have any decorative ornaments or flair. Just a ring and some keys. Here:

The last time I was back home visiting my family I asked my mom for her car keys. She handed me a five-pound handful of keys, discount cards, car alarm remotes and doo-dads, which I quickly returned to her after removing just the ignition key for myself. The janitor-like collection of keys had me wondering, "What do other people's key chains look like? What do they keep on them? And does it differ from place to place?"
So, I put out a request to have my Twitter followers tweet me pictures of their keys so we could all take a look. From the photos you'll see everyone's unique chain, their Twitter name, where they reside (if it's public) and their interesting choice of surface area to take the picture.

Check out November 2011's picks from Some Kinda Blog:
"As the last leaves were shed, autumn’s second act revealed nature’s raw beauty. This month’s selection of things to covet revolve around reclaimed woods and earthy textures. Mixing rustic appeal with contemporary forms can add warmth and an understated sophistication to our homes.
Eco-conscious products have come a long way in quality and price points, so we have no excuses not to be thoughtful consumers. All of the items below have elements of reclaimed wood, hand-craft and/or sustainable materials. Now before you go on, I leave you with one final quip: It’s the wood that makes it good."

Wood makes in good indeed. I love the evergreen pillow and the modern but natural lamp. Wouldn't lose look nice in a relaxing bedroom? To find out the pricing info and where to buy this month's "I Want It!" products head over to Some Kinda Blog.

Check out October 2011's picks from Some Kinda Blog:
"Fall has arrived and it’s been awesome for us in the upper central North American hemisphere. Our weather has been seasonably warm-even hotter than Vegas, if you can believe it-but we all know it’s not going to last. So let’s get ready to cozy up! For this month’s wants I’ve been attracted to warm things – wood, wool and glowing morning breakfasts."

I'm definitely digging both of those sweaters, and I wouldn't mind waking muffins and eggs either! To find out the pricing info and where to buy this month's "I Want It!" products head over to Some Kinda Blog.

I have been following his picks for quite some time now, and almost always wish I could snatch up all of the things he mentions. Now, Roberutsu has graciously given me permission to share his monthly posts with all of you starting with September 2011!
From Some Kinda Blog:
This month’s feature is going back to black. Of all the items below, the most intriguing is the blk beverage. At first sight, one might think of the bottle design as a nice example of minimal black packaging. But it may surprise you to know that it is actually a clear bottle. Yep. The water is, indeed, black. According to reviews, it "tastes like water, but not exactly like water." Hmmm, sounds interesting. I am definitely blk-curious!
I'm personally jonesing for the Hunter Sweater from YMC. To find out the pricing info and where to buy this month's "I Want It!" products head over to Some Kinda Blog.

Eight house guests might seem like a small group, but the twist with season 13 is that these newbies will be joined by some of Big Brother's most memorable duos, with potentials like couple Brendon and Rachel, best buds Dr. Will and Mike "Boogie" or father-daugher-duo Evel Dick and Danielle.
While we won't find out who these memorable duos will be until the show airs, we are able to take sneak peek into this season's house, where the contestants will be filmed 24 hours a day. Keep reading see the photos!

In IFC's new series Portlandia (Friday's at 10:30pm) stars Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein take a satirical look at life in Portland, Oregon. In the series premiere a sketch featuring Bryce Shivers and Lisa Eversman proves that there is one tried and true secret to creating an irresistible piece of decor or trinket: Put a bird on it! Check it out...
This clip makes me think of my good pal Carolyn's awesome blog which showcases lovely design items, often featuring with a heavy avian theme. She was way ahead of the curve.
If this tip has inspired you head over to PutaBirdOnIt.com to put a bird on any Web site of your choosing!
Portlandia is really funny and airs Friday nights at 10:30pm on IFC.
I've been paying special attention to home decorating and design blogs after moving into my new apartment in July, and after getting a good response from a few posts about the new place I've decided to share some more steps along the way.

Now that we finally painted it was time to get some art on the walls. I love the look of vintage postcards, so we decided to make a "collection wall" of sorts with ones found at local flea markets and garage sales. Most of them were picked up at Brooklyn Flea from the owner of Bad Postcards (which are actually quite good.)
We picked up 12 little snap frames from A.I. Friedman (that were 50% off! whoo!) and got to work.

I asked everyone what color we should paint our bedroom, you voted, and then we didn't listen to your opinions and picked a completely different color!

This isn't the best photo, but you get the point. The color is "Santa Monica Blue" by Benjamin Moore and is a bright blue that drastically changes shades as the day goes on.
The photo above was taken in the morning when the sun from the sky light makes it super bright and cheery. At night the walls are rich and soothing. I love the color because of it's youthful feel and energy, but somehow it's sophisticated (at least to me) at the same time.
Honestly, we bought a gallon of the "saturated aquamarine" color from the voting post, but it was absolutely disgusting on the wall, so that was quickly painted over!
What do you think?
Last month I asked everyone's opinion on what color we should paint our kitchen and there was a great response! Most of you voted for a slate color and so that's what we did. Check it out...

Our painted kitchen (please ignore the clutter)
The actual color is Benjamin Moore "Al Fresco"and is a little darker than the one we Photoshopped in, but it looks great. We painted the header wall and shelf, along with the front of the kitchen island. The color really pops from the wood and brick textures around the apartment, and it nicely showcases the found objects we have on display. We also picked up two Flint bar stools from CB2 for the island that look really nice against the blue.
Once we started painting we thought the color was so nice we decided to keep it going around the room into the living space.
Maybe it's because I just moved and am in the throws of decorating (kitchen, bedroom, bathroom) and organizing, but I am kind of obsessed with this guy and his tiny house.

Ten years ago, Jay Shafer downsized to an 89-square-foot house and reinvented both his lifestyle and career in the process. Check out the clip from Yahoo! Second Act:
Shafer has been all over the place promoting his story and his business -- Tumbleweed Houses -- and while the tight space may make some people crazy (a.k.a. me) it seems to be working all right for him.
The Tiny Houses were recently featured on HGTV's Design Star, where the three remaining finalists each had to style a Tumbleweed Box Bungalow house.
I hope you readers are having as much fun with these posts as I am! First it was the kitchen, then it was the bedroom and now it's time for the bathroom.

The bathroom is small but nice. There is a huge mirrored medicine cabinet above the white sink and toilet. We have a clear, textured shower curtain and the tiles are an unusual tan color with a hink of pink (gross.) Which colors do you like?
Everyone was so interesting (and so helpful!) in choosing which color we should paint our kitchen, so I've decided to keep the choices coming with the rest of the painting. Next up: The bedroom!

Our bedroom, bathroom and closet area sit up in a lofted space above the living room and kitchen. The ceilings are vaulted and there is a massive skylight above the desk. The computer desk is a lime green color and will stay in the room for good, so the wall color should accent. Bed spread is a dark gray with small white lines sketched on it. Here are the front runners so far:
I just moved into a new apartment at the beginning of July (no, not the one with the huge roof deck) and I am so excited to personalize it... but I'd like to get your opinion on everything, too! First up, the kitchen. It's in pretty good shape, but as pointed out this Summer Friday post, everything needs a good paint job.
Here's our current kitchen space as is:

Clutter aside, the kitchen opens up into the living room and features exposed brick, light wood cabinets and butcher block. There's a silver ceiling fan above the island and we'll be putting antique-type items on the shelf above the entrance.
We're looking to paint the door wall, shelf overhang wall and the front of the island. So, what color should we paint? Here are some options:
Every Friday between Memorial Day and Labor Day I'm going to be featuring guest bloggers as a part of my "Summer Fridays" series. This week's entry comes from Brennen F. who shares some cheap and simple ways to rejuvenate your living space.
I live in one of the smallest and oldest apartments in Manhattan’s East Village. Over the past few years I’ve been experimenting with idea after idea to give my little shoe box a bit of character. After many trials and errors, I have come up with a few ideas that work for me and I’ve decided to share them here.
Tip #1: Cheap is great, free is better
While out shopping, and rummaging through the clearance section at Urban Outfitters, I found a print of a water gun for $9. It wasn’t anything that I would have gravitated toward had it been full price, but I knew that I could do something with it to work it into my room. I had the print for a month or two and never got that excited about it. One day my roommate, came home with an antique frame that he had found on the street. After the two of us looked at the frame for a bit, we decided it was exactly what our "water gun" needed to make it unique, eclectic, and fit in the room.

I'm sitting on my sofa next to my window enjoying the sunshine and was struck by the cool view outside of my window. I love how perfectly the buildings are lined up and how they -- in order -- show the progress of construction in New York City.

Right out my window is a little pre-war building, then across the street there's the brick office of the Salvation Army, then a big factory that looks like it's from the mid 1900s, then two giant glass high rise apartment buildings in the distance.
Love the great water towers on the older buildings, too. Just thought I'd share.
The Hamburger Bed looks both comfortable and delicious.

...although I think this is technically a Cheeseburger Bed.
