I actually wrote this post over a year ago, but since my traffic has increased significantly since then, I'd like to repost for all the new readers out there. Enjoy!
I don't know about you, but I always have to have some background noise going on, both at work and at home. Whether it's the TV or the radio or mp3s I always need something happening to keep my ears interested. Whenever possible I always like to have some tunes going in the morning. I'd much rather listen to some mellow music and sip on some coffee to start the day than watch TV, but that's not always possible; especially when I'm at the office.
I know not everyone is able to listen to tunes at work because of their seating situation or computer capabilities, but I found a really great website that I think you might appreciate. The website is Musicovery.com and seems to be the easiest site to use that I've found over the past few years. Musicovery uses this color-coded matrix system that lets the user click certain areas on the map to play tunes according to their mood. If you're just starting out your day at work and you need some positive, calm music it's just a click away. There's also a little time line that that you can customize for a certain time period's music.
Listeners can choose to jam to songs from various genres or they can select just one of the color-coded types to personalize their play list. The great thing about it is that the site offers a sort of "map" that allows users to see the genre and title of the next songs that will play. If you don't like a song that's playing you can just click a new one and it starts right away; No annoying loading or buffering.
The only downside is that if you want hi-fidelity songs you do have to subscribe, but the lo-fi isn't too shabby. Probably not the best for pumping out of your sound system, but fine for computer speakers at work. It's a European site, too, so there's a good chance that unless you follow UK tunes like me, you might not know a lot of the songs, but still... really good selection of old and new jams for your ears.
Check it out and let me know what you think!
